In over four hours of reflections, Prof. Bushman presents the theme of God's merciful love. The series begins with an analysis of the way sin has disfigured the image we have of God. Adam and Eve, Job and St. Peter all display the tendency to want to distance themselves from God when they become aware that they have sinned.

The Bible reveals that God's love is greater than sin, and that he constantly calls us to conversion. Five vignettes — King David, St. Paul, St. Peter, the Penitent Woman, and the Prodigal Son — form the core of the series. In these conversion stories we discover a pattern according to which God wants us to participate in the judgment about sin and freely turn to him for forgiveness and reconciliation.

Through these reflections many people have discovered and rediscovered that the truth that God is merciful love is the truth which sets us free to turn to him in our need and seek forgiveness. The truth of faith that God is merciful love is the truth which allows us to "face the Day of Judgment fearlessly" since "perfect love drives out fear because fear implies punishment and whoever is afraid has not come to perfection in love" (1 John 4:17-18).
